Dr. Emma McGibbon

I am an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist with years of experience supporting children, young people, and their families. In 2018 I completed further training in Paediatric Neuropsychology (Postgraduate Diploma at UCL) in order to extend my knowledge of children and young people with neurodevelopmental differences, including autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities and extreme strengths, cerebral palsy, and long-term health conditions. I provide psychological interventions to children, young people, families, carers, and support workers, helping them understand and manage emotional, behavioural, and learning challenges in a calm and supportive way.

Since qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 2008, I have worked extensively in NHS children’s services and, since 2012, in private practice. I support self-referred families, act as a treating clinician in medico-legal cases, and provide expert witness reports for court.
I take a holistic approach when working with children and families, tailoring support to their unique needs. Using a range of evidence-based techniques—including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)—I help young people and families work towards their goals in a way that feels effective and manageable. She provides post-diagnostic support after a child has undergone neurodevelopmental assessment.
I know that seeking support from a psychologist can feel like a big step. I have a non-judgmental and open approach when working with individuals. I am dedicated to supporting children, their families, and carers in making meaningful changes to improve their well-being and quality of life.

Dr. Jenny Sloneem

I am a caring and committed Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist specialising in helping children and young people facing learning, behavior, social communication, and neuropsychological challenges. I take great pride in being an expert in my field.

In 2003, I completed a PhD in psychology, specialising in intellectual disability and behaviour. I then undertook doctoral clinical psychology training at King’s College London, qualifying in 2005.  Following this, I went on to gain extensive experience working in child mental health services in a range of London-based NHS trusts.  For more than a decade, I worked in, and later managed NHS services supporting young people with disabilities who presented with ‘behaviours that challenge’.

In 2016, I joined the Neurodevelopmental Psychology and Neurodisability Services at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) where I began specialising in complex assessments for children with neurodevelopmental, neurological, cognitive, and/or behavioural challenges.  I  am privileged to remain part of this team, now as a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist. Alongside my management responsibilities, I provide specialist assessments for children with complex conditions, including rare epilepsy syndromes, visual impairments, and metabolic disorders. I also lead the psychological component of clinical research trials at GOSH, working to improve treatments for life-limiting conditions.

I have a strong commitment to ongoing learning and continually developing my expertise. Alongside my clinical work, I actively engage in research and further training. In 2018 I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychology at University College London, and in 2025 completed a
Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Neuropsychology Practice at the University of Bristol. I am now on the British Psychological Society’s ‘Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists’, which is considered the gold standard for practitioners in the field, and a recognised marker of specialist expertise. I am among a small number of neuropsychologists in the UK accredited to work at this level with children. I now guest lecture on Neuropsychology Masters Courses at University College London.

I recognise that many children and young people have differences that can easily go unnoticed, often resulting in a range of challenges. I am deeply committed to helping others understand each child’s unique profile, so they can be supported to reach their social, emotional, and academic potential, whatever that may look like for them.

Qualifications

Before training to be a psychologist, I completed a PhD focusing on behaviours that challenge in rare genetic syndromes. I went on to complete my clinical psychology doctorate at King’s College London in 2005. Since qualifying I have undertaken a range of training relevant to the work I do (e.g., Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd edition- ADOS-2; Autism

Diagnostic Interview Revised – ADI-R; various parent training programmes). In 2018 I completed a Postgraduate diploma in Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychology at University College London, and I am about to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Neuropsychology Practice at Bristol University. This final qualification will enable me join the British Psychological Society’s Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. This is the gold standard for registration for clinicians practising in neuropsychology and provides a quality mark for expertise.

Employment

After qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist in 2005, I worked in a range of NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) services in and around London. I specialised in improving mental health and reducing behaviours that challenge in young people with a range of disabilities.

I started working at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in 2013 and am currently a consultant in the Neurodevelopmental Psychology and Neurodisability Services. I feel privileged to be part of the senior staff group in this world leading children’s hospital. In my role, alongside management of services, I provide specialist assessments for children with complex conditions, including rare epilepsy syndromes, visual impairments, and metabolic disorders. I also lead the psychological input to the clinical research trials at GOSH where we aim to improve treatments for life-limiting conditions.

I co-founded Children’s Neuropsychological Services in 2019 with Dr Emma McGibbon. In this role I undertake assessments of children with neurodevelopmental, cognitive, and behavioural challenges. Many of the children I support are neurodivergent or have intellectual disabilities, neurodisabilities, or complex developmental needs. Others may experience standalone academic, behavioural, or social difficulties.

Other

I retain an interest in behaviour disorders and social communication difficulties associated with syndromes linked to intellectual disabilities and I actively undertake research in this area. Additionally, I am a member of the Cornelia de Lange Syndrome Foundation (UK) Scientific and Clinical Advisory Team.
